1956 STUDEBAKER TRUCK

This is the modified E45 Diesel by Studebaker. The size of the tractor has been reduced from 102 inches to 96 inches from bumper to the back of the cab. Studebaker now provides a truck tractor in combination with a 40-foot trailer that seats the legal requirements in states having a 50-foot overall size limitation. The E45 two-ton Diesel is rated at 19,000 through 23,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, and 35,000 through 41,000 pounds gross combination weight. A Series 52 four-cylinder, two-cycle engines powers the E45.

FOR RELEASE - Monday, November 28, 1955

Two-ton truck, top weight model in Studebaker's Transtar line, goes through pre-introduction testing at the South Bend proving ground. Advances on the heavier duty units include a 10 per cent increase in frame strength, elimination of fish plating to simplify body installation, 38 per cent increase in combined rear spring capacity to 6600 pounds: brake boosters as standard equipment which are the industry's largest (9-1/2 inch diameter) for this type truck: and electric shift with a two-speed dual purpose axle. Wheelbases available are 131, 155, and 171 inches. A 259.6-cubic inch V8 engine of 156-horsepower will be standard, with a cab and factory-installed nine-foot through 14-foot stake and platform bodies, which have the greatest inside width in the industry. Other new developments throughout the line, which starts with half-ton models, are a 12-volt electrical system, ignition key starter, oil bath air cleaners, and new, bigger, more massive appearance.
